MINOT, N.D. -- Minot State fans are focused on
Tyler Rudolph's pursuit of the Beavers career scoring record, but Rudolph and his teammates are focused on earning two more victories as Winona State and Upper Iowa will visit the Minot State Dome this weekend for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests.
Minot State will face Winona State on Friday (Jan. 26) at 8 p.m. and then conclude the weekend by hosting Upper Iowa at 6 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 27).
Rudolph enters the weekend just 30 points away from breaking the school's all-time scoring record. Paul Harrell, who played at Minot State from 1977-80, is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,826 points while Rudolph sits in second place with 1,797 points.
The Bismarck, N.D., native has put together an outstanding senior season as he is second in the NSIC averaging 22.0 points per game and also ranks second in the conference shooting 60.6 percent from the floor. His 7.1 rebounds per game average is sixth in the NSIC, while he stands 10th in the conference shooting 83.1 percent from the foul line.
Minot State, which enters the weekend with a 17-3 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the NSIC, has also received strong play from senior point guard
Luis Ricci Maia. Ricci Maia is ranked second in the conference in assists averaging 6.6 per game and is sixth in the league averaging 1.5 steals per game. Additionally, Ricci Maia has reached double figures in scoring in eight straight games and is shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 56.5 percent from the three-point line during that span.
Senior
Nathaniel Moore has reached double figures in scoring in six consecutive games, while
David Akibo has four straight double-figure scoring games and scored a career-high 24 points in the Beavers last game at Minnesota Crookston.
Minot State has posted a 16-0 record this season when shooting a higher field goal percentage than its opponents and is also 16-0 on the year when recording more assists than the opposition.
Winona State, which is 13-7 overall and 8-6 in conference, owns a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won two straight. Corey Jeffs is the leading scorer for the Warriors averaging 12.6 points per game, while Tommy Gathje is averaging 12.4 points per game.
Upper Iowa also owns a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series against Minot State. The Peacocks, who are 11-12 overall and 4-10 in the NSIC, are led by Carson Parker who scores 16.4 points per game.
