MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State soccer team will meet Minnesota State on Sunday (Nov. 4) in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Championship match at 1 p.m. on The Pitch at Minnesota State.
The Beavers, who are 13-4-3 overall, are vying for their first NSICÂ Championship since the 2012 season. Minot State defeated Winona State 1-0 in the 2012 title match and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
Minot State opened tournament play with a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State in Herb Parker Stadium. The Beavers fell behind 2-0 before a pair of goals from First Team All-NSICÂ selection
Sofia Lewis tied the match at 2-2.
Cinthya Samaniego then tallied the game winner for the Beavers to propel them into the semifinals.
A familiar foe awaited Minot State in the semifinals as Mary stood between the Beavers and the championship match. Minot State got two goals from
Haley Berryman and a goal from Samaniego to post a 3-1 victory over the Marauders, which earned the Beavers a spot in the championship match.
Minot State has reeled off seven consecutive wins and is 8-0-1 in its last nine matches. The Beavers last tasted defeat on Oct. 5 at Bemidji State by a 3-0 count.
Minnesota State earned its spot in the championship match after defeating Concordia-St. Paul 4-0 in the opening round and then dispatching Augustana 3-0 in the semifinals.
Minnesota State, which is 17-2-1 on the season, defeated Minot State 5-0 in the regular season meeting on Sept. 30 in Mankato, Minn.
The winner of the match will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, while the loser will have to wait until Monday night when the bracket is revealed by the NCAA.
