Beavers Fall Twice in Saturday Doubleheader

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Minot State baseball team dropped a pair of games (1-15, 9-10) on Saturday afternoon at Nebraska-Kearney at Memorial Field in Kearney, Neb.

Minot State fell to 2-7 on the season while the Lopers improve to 2-10.

Game One

Minot State dropped the first game 15-1, as UNK's Evan Hill limited the Beavers to one hit while pitching the complete-game victory.

The Lopers held a 4-0 lead after three innings before scoring four runs in the fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning.

Dustin Wilcox recorded the lone hit for Minot State with a double in the third inning.

Zach Newman (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up three runs on six hits in two innings while striking out two batters.

Game Two

Minot State's offense came alive in the second game, as the Beavers scored two runs in the first and added four runs in the second inning.

Kyle Williamson opened the game with double before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Michael Borst. The Beavers doubled their lead off an RBI triple from Celestino Rodriguez that allowed Darrel Doll to score after reaching base on a walk.

UNK trimmed the Minot State lead in half with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.

Logan Morse and Zack Kunkel reached on back-to-back singles to open the second inning. Williams and Andrew Black added RBI singles, extending Minot State's to 4-1. Borst capped the four-run inning with a two-run home run to right field.

The Lopers added three runs in the second inning to cut the Beaver lead to 6-4. The Beavers got one of the runs back in the third inning on an RBI groundout from Kunkel.
UNK added four runs in the fifth and another in the sixth inning to take a 10-7 lead after six innings.

Minot State's comeback attempt fell just short in the ninth inning after Williamson smacked a two-run home run to right field, trimming UNK's lead to 10-9.

Minot State scored nine runs off 12 hits and committed one error while the Lopers scored 10 runs on 12 hits and also committed an error.

Williamson led the Beavers at the plate, batting 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and two walks. Borst also led the Beavers with 3 RBIs while recording a hit.

Rodriguez went 3-for-5 at the plate, finishing a home run short of the cycle while Logan Morse also added two hits.

Andres Hackman fell to 1-2 on the season after surrendering eight runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work on the mound. Wyatt Moore pitched the final 3.2 innings of relief while striking out four batters and giving up two runs on five hits.

The Beavers and Lopers wrap up the four-game series tomorrow at noon.
