Win Streak Continues on Record Breaking Day

MINOT, N.D. – Records continue to fall for the Minot State baseball team as the Beavers set a quartet of records in a doubleheader sweep over Upper Iowa in NSIC play on Wednesday at Corbett Field.
 
Minot State won the first game 7-4 before taking the second game 6-4 over the Peacocks.

How It Happened
  • Smith began the game with a double down the left field line before scoring on an RBI single by Ryley Humrighouse.
  • Borst followed with an RBI single to center field, scoring Humrighouse and doubling the Beaver lead to 2-0.
  • Smith opened the third with a double and Humrighouse walked before Borst blasted a three-run homer to left.
  • Minot State added two more runs in the third off a sacrifice fly by Celestino Rodriguez and an RBI single by Wyatt Schlosser.
  • The Peacocks scored their first run on a solo home run in the fourth inning.
  • Upper Iowa plated three runs on one hit in the sixth inning, but the Beavers held on for the 7-4 win in game one.

How It Happened
  • Jake Collins started the fourth by reaching on an error before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Darrel Doll.
  • Dillon Buckmeier scored Minot State's second run of the game on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
  • The Beavers added two more runs in the fifth when Borst and Humrighouse touched home after an errant throw by the Peacock second baseman.
  • Upper Iowa cut the Beaver lead in half with a pair of runs off four hits in the sixth inning.
  • The Peacocks added two runs on four hits in the seventh to tie the game at four.
  • The Beavers answered with Gifford's RBI sac fly and Black's RBI bunt single to grab a two-run lead after seven innings.
  • The Beaver bullpen prevented the Peacocks from touching home in the final two innings to clinch the 6-4 victory in the second game.

  • Buckmeier had a team-high two hits while four other Beavers recorded a hit.
  • Borst touched home twice to lead Minot State.

Minot State welcomes the defending National Champions to the Magic City as the Beavers host the Augustana in a four-game series beginning on Saturday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. The first three games will count as NSIC contests while the fourth game of the series will count as a non-conference game.
