Beaver Men's Basketball Looks to Start the New Year Off with Pair of Victories

(MINOT, N.D.) -- The Minot State men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend for the first time in 2020. The Beavers have been off for about two weeks as the last time they were on the court was December 21st.

The Beavers will travel to Minnesota for a pair of contests this weekend, looking for their first NSIC victory of the season. On Friday night, the Beavers take on the Mavericks of Minnesota State. Following that, they will take on Concordia-St. Paul, on Saturday evening.
 
Series History 
           
      vs. Minnesota State
  • In the eight matchups on record, the Mavericks lead the series 7-1.
  • The Mavericks won both matchups last season in tight single-digit fashion.
  • The last time the Beavers were victorious was 1/12/2018 when the won 91-83.
      vs. Concordia-St. Paul
  • The Beavers have had a lot of success against the Golden Bears, winning six of the seven matchups dating back to 2013.
  • Minot State has won five straight against Concordia-St. Paul.
  • The last time Concordia-St. Paul defeated the Beavers was in 2014.
 
Beaver Tracks 
  • Minot State has been active on the defensive end of the court all season as they are second best in the conference, allowing 66.4 points per game.
  • The Beavers are fourth in the NSIC in field goal percentage against (41.8%) and first in three-point percentage against (28.1%).

Scouting Report 
 
      Minnesota State
  • The Mavericks will bring a 5-7 overall record and 3-3 NSIC record into the weekend.
  • Minnesota State is averaging just over 79 points per contest. That is the fourth-best mark in the NSIC.
  • The Mavericks allow opponents to shoot 40.8% on the season, second-best in the Northern Sun.
  • Cameron Kirksey and Ryland Holt are the scoring leaders for Minnesota State.
  • Kirksey is fourth in the NSIC, averaging 18.8 points per game; meanwhile, Holt is 15th, scoring 15.8 points per contest.
  • Holt is shooting over 60% on the season.
  • Minot State will have to try to keep Kelby Kramer off the glass as he is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.
  • Kramer is also a force on the defensive side of the ball, averaging three blocks per game to lead the NSIC.
 
      Concordia-St. Paul
  • The Golden Bears struggled in the year 2019, getting out to a 3-7 start and winning one of six NSIC contests.
  • Concordia-St. Paul is currently on a four-game losing streak.
  • The biggest problem for the Golden Bears has been their defense, as they are allowing opponents to score 77.1 points per game. That mark is 15th out of 16 teams in the NSIC.
  • The Golden Bears shoot three-pointers at a high rate, hitting 37.4 (82-219) percent on the season.
  • Turnovers have been a problem for CSP, as they turn it over almost fifteen times a game.
  • Jordan Coblin leads the Golden Bears, averaging 17.5 points per game.
  • Coblin also leads the team, averaging 4.8 per contest.
