FREMONT, Neb. – The Beavers scored twelve goals in two nights, allowing just one into their net during their series against Midland University over the weekend.
Minot State cleaned up the competition with a complete sweep over the 6-9-1 Warriors these past Friday and Saturday nights, winning 5-0 and 7-1.
FRIDAY, NOV. 12TH
Drew Carter and
Connor Navrot set up
Carter Barley for the first goal of the series just 6 minutes, 47 seconds into the first period and the Beavers took the lead over the Warriors, 1-0.
Jordan Robertson and
Jared Hamm fed off each other's success in the second period, scoring goals just over one minute apart from one another.
Nick Doyle,
Austin Wieler,
Reece Henry, and
Landyn Cochrane each earned assists in the second, closing it out with a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.
The powerful offensive trio of Hamm, Henry, and Cochrane came together again to score the first goal of the third period. The Beavers held a 4-0 advantage over the Warriors with less than 14 minutes remaining in the game.
Almost exactly two minutes later, Carter set up
Paul O'Connor for the final goal of the night, while Minot State shut out Midland with a 5-0 victory.
Jake Anthony played all 60 minutes in between the Minot State pipes and did not allowed a goal with 12 saves on Friday night.
SATURDAY, NOV. 13TH
Unlike the previous night where the Beavers took the lead from the jump, the Warriors came out with a vengeance, scoring the first goal of the night and earning a 1-0 lead over MSU.
Within 1:10 of Midland scoring the Beavers retaliated and evened the playing field on a power play. With the power play advantage, Barley and Navrot were able to set Hamm up for a perfect shot into Midland's goal, ending the period 1-1.
Jordan Robertson ignited the rally in the start of the second period, giving the Beavers a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal just 1:50 into the period. Offense kept the sticks on fire as Hamm and Barley each tacked on a goal apiece with assists by
Drew Carter and
Reece Henry.
Davis Sheldon, with an assist by
Wayde Johannesson, was able to capitalize on a power play just over 2 minutes before the end of the period putting the Beavers on top of the Warriors, 5-1.
Short-handed success in the third period locked the Beavers in for a Saturday night victory on Midland ice. Down one man, and just 50 seconds into the third,
Drew Carter assisted
Josh Pederson on the sixth Beaver goal of the night.
Now up 6-1, Minot State found itself with a short-handed disadvantage again just 2 minutes later.
Eric Soar set
Drew Carter up for a MSU power-play goal — the seventh and final one of the night.
Riley Wallace only allowed one goal into the Minot State net and posted 22 saves on the night for the win.
The No. 1 Beavers remain undefeated in the ACHA, improving their record to 9-0-0.
Minot State next hosts No. 11 Jamestown University for their third competition between the school this season. JU almost sent the Beavers home with their first loss of the season just two months ago on the first night of the 2021-2022 season. An overtime victory allowed MSU to prevail and walk away with their first win to their now nine-game win streak.
The competition between the two teams is set to be fierce for their midweek competition this upcoming Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Maysa Arena. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
