ABERDEEN, SD --
Melvin Newbern totaled 31 points, but the Minot State men's basketball team fell to the Northern State Wolves 87-77 on the road Friday.
The Beavers (6-5, 4-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Newbern, who put together a double-double with 31 points and 17 rebounds.
Kody Dwyer added 12 points and eight rebounds and
Max Cody helped out with 10 points.
The Minot State offense was very productive from downtown, knocking down eight threes on 26 attempts. Newbern was the most prolific shooter for the Beavers, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
Minot State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 52-37 heading into halftime.
Northern State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 83-56 advantage before Minot State went on an 11-0 run, finished off by Newbern's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 83-67 with 4:04 to go in the contest. The Beavers kept their comeback going, but Northern State managed to hold on for the 87-77 win. Minot State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 40 points in the lane.
