MINOT, N.D. – Minot State women's soccer (3-0) celebrated their third-consecutive win this morning with a convincing 3-1 effort over Montana State Billings (2-1).
The Beavers started quickly with a fourth-minute goal by
Sofia Lewis. Lewis was set up with a perfectly placed assist from
Melanie van Walstijn in order to score her third goal of the season.
Later in the first half, the Yellowjackets evened the score when Lexie Bloyder gathered a loose ball in the box and delivered a strike.
MSU and MSUB went into the halftime break tied 1-1.
After the mid-game pause, Minot State dominated the second half in time of possession and scored two goals less than two minutes apart.
Van Walstijn scored her third goal of the year in the 61
st-minute without an assist.
Almost exactly a minute later,
Maddie Underwood netted her first career goal in the 62
nd-minute with an impressive shot from well outside of the box. Van Walstijn collected her second assist of the game on Underwood's score.
Despite the final score, MSU Billings outshot the Beavers 16-15. Minot State did have one more shot on goal, however, and took better advantage of their opportunities.
In goal,
Maddie Kindred saved six shots for the Beavers and allowed just the lone goal while earning the victory.
For the Yellowjackets, Clare Keenan manned the net and recorded five saves in the loss.
Minot State will return to the pitch next weekend with two neutral-site games against Upper Iowa and Concordia-St. Paul in Mankato, Minn. The Beavers will kick-off against UIU on Friday, Mar. 5 at 2:30 p.m. and CSP on Sunday, Mar. 7 at 2 p.m.
