Joey Moffatt continued his early-season hot streak with another goal and an assist, and captain
Davis Sheldon added two more goals as the Minot State men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of in-state rival Jamestown with a 6-1 victory at the Maysa Arena on Saturday.
The Beavers (2-0-0 overall) bested the Jimmies (0-2-0) 4-3 on Friday night in Jamestown.
Reid Arnold started the onslaught Saturday in front of a boisterous home crown, scoring 5 minutes, 15 seconds into the contest to open the floodgates, off assists from
Christian Kadolph and
Carter Barley, and Minot State never let up.
Howard's first collegiate goal came 5:16 later, making it 2-0, a Moffatt and
Jay Buchholz each had an assists, then Moffatt scored of helpers from Buchholz and Howard for a 3-0 lead with 2:22 left in the first.
Minot State kept pouring it on in the second period as
Connor Navrot scored his first of the year 3:04 into the session off assists from
Davis Sheldon and Barley, then Sheldon put one in the net with 6:20 gone off an Arnold assist for a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Sheldon pushed the lead to 6-0 early ibn the third before the Jimmies finally snapped the shutout with 12:59 left in the game.
Jake Anthony finished with 19 saves in the win in goal for Minot State, which is back in action at home next weekend hosting Liberty University of Friday and Saturday, with puck-drop at 7:30 p.m. each night.
