Minot State hockey scores thrilling win on Senior Night

MINOT, N.D. - The Minot State men's hockey team celebrated senior night with a thriller Saturday at the Maysa Arena.

Down a goal early in the second period to visiting and 16th-ranked Arizona, the second-ranked Beavers quickly rallied and skated away with a 3-1 win over the Wildcats.

Down 1-0 after the Wildcats scored early in the second period, Justin Metcalf tied the game for Minot State (28-2-0 overall) just 1 minute, 37 seconds later off assists from Davis Sheldon and Carter Barley.

Knotted up at 1-1, Jay Buchholz broke the tie with 6:03 gone in the third period, scoring off an assist from Sheldon for the game winner.

It remained a 2-1 contest until an empty-net goal by Barley with 8 seconds left iced the win.

Jake Anthony made 12 saves in goal in the win for Minot State, which outshot Arizona 30-13 on the night.

Minot State now gets a couple of weeks off before returning to the ice on March 1 when the Beavers play at the Dakota College at Bottineau.
