FREMONT, Neb. – It took extra time, but the Minot State men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep at Midland.
The top-ranked Beavers tied it in the second period, then
Christian Kadolph netted a power-play goal with just 26 seconds left in overtime, lifting Minot State to a 3-2 win over the host Warriors.
Minot State now returns home for a quick visit to host Colorado State on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Maysa Arena before traveling to Oklahoma for games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Jan. 13-15, at the Central Oklahoma Classic.
Coming off a 6-2 win on Friday night, the Beavers (17-1-0 overall) jumped in front early Saturday as
Landyn Cochrane scored just 2 minutes, 27 seconds into the action of a
Carter Barley assist.
The host Warriors, who played catch-up all Friday, caught up quickly Saturday, tying it 5:05 later, then Midland took its first lead of the weekend with a goal 8:28 into the second period.
Minot State answered with a game-tying goal by
Josh Pederson with 5:58 left in the second, a goal set up by Kadolph and
Reece Henry, then the score remained deadlocked at 2-2 for the rest of regulation.
Once into overtime, both teams had a power-play chance with the Beavers killing off their short-handed situation before Kadolph netted the winner off assists from
Sheldin Howard and
Joey Moffatt.
Riley Wallace finished with 18 saves in the win for Minot State, which outshot Midland 66-20.
