MINOT, N.D. – Minot State men's hockey picked up right where they left off to put on another excellent showing for the hometown fans. The Beavers took on Midland in the second game of another back-to-back and came out victorious once more.
Just like last night, the No. 2 Beavers (16-4-0) took control of the game and never looked back as they completed the series sweep with a 7-1 win over Midland University (9-12-1). Minot State immediately went to work, sparing hardly any time before the first goal came around. The Beavers would open the game with seven unanswered goals, including four in the first period and three in the second. Midland picked up one goal themselves on a perfect shot, but the damage was already done, and Minot State put all doubts to rest quickly.
The Beavers scored as early as 13 seconds into the match. Not even two minutes later, they would do it again as things were trending upward for Minot instantly. Four goals made up within the first seven minutes of action. Period two was more of the same, with two goals coming in at the 25-second mark and at 1:08. The scoring ended just over halfway through the middle frame, as the Beavers got to seven before Midland struck once.
Both teams will meet again in Fremont, Nebraska on January 19 and 20 in the new year.
For the second night in a row, the Beavers had seven different goal scorers as it was almost a carbon copy compared to the game before.
Reece Henry kicked off the scoring for the Beavers very early in the first period.
Colby Joseph grabbed his eighth of the year, along with
Brayden Pawluk scoring again on the power play. A nice shot from the point by
Logan Rands finds a way in traffic as he was able to tally his first goal of the season. Moving into the second, the leading goal scorer
Reid Arnold did it again with his 12
th followed by
Sheldin Howard getting his fourth. Both Arnold and Howard's goals were power play markers to go with Pawluk's in the first. Another goal by a defenseman was scored when
Christian Kadolph collected his fifth of the year. No goals were scored in the final period of regulation as the scoreboard remained the same. Kadolph also added two assists to go along with his goal. Another top performance was completed by
Joey Moffatt. He was a passing machine with three assists on the night.
Jake Anthony returned to the crease as starting netminder, making 14 saves on 15 total shots by Midland.
The Beavers won with ease over the Midland Warriors and collected another weekend sweep. It was Minot State's 10
th win versus Midland since affiliation started with MSU Athletics.
