MINOT, ND -- Junior Martin Rodriquez and senior Matt Malone each collected three hits to help propel the Minot State Beavers over the Mary Marauders 9-7 on Sunday in NSIC baseball.
Junior Gage Yost (4-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minot State (26-15 overall, 17-12 NSIC). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.
In addition to his three hits, Malone had an RBI to lead the Beavers. Rodriquez added a home run and two RBI to his three-hit performance as well. Junior Shane Kary also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
Minot State is back in action on Tuesday, closing out its home schedule at Corbett Field hosting Southwest Minnesota State in a doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Junior Mark Ossanna came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State and get them on the board.
The Beavers kept the Marauders off the board before tying it up in the third. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of senior Derek Kay, which brought the score level at 2-2.
That 2-2 tie turned into a 6-2 Minot State lead in the fourth. The Beavers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Kary.
Minot State held the Marauders scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Beavers scored twice on Rodriquez's two-run homer, bringing the score to 8-2 in favor of Minot State.
Mary got within 8-3 until the Beavers scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 9-3. Minot State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Kay. Mary put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Beavers still held on for the 9-7 win.
