BISMARCK, ND -- The Minot State Beavers fell 8-7 in a 10-inning matchup to the Winona State Warriors on Thursday in an elimination game at the NSIC Tournament.
Junior Cameron Bagshaw (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Minot State (29-19 overall) and took the loss. Junior Austin Loeb was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing 2.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and two strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Beavers were led by junior Mark Ossanna who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Derek Kay put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI. Junior Martin Rodriquez also contributed for Minot State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
The loss eliminated Minot State from the NSIC Tournament and ends the Beavers season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Rodriquez, scoring Ossanna from second base.
After the Warriors rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Beavers came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Minot State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by senior Matt Malone's single, which brought the Beavers lead to 3-1.
Minot State's lead had evaporated once the seventh inning arrived and turned into a 4-3 Winona State advantage when the Beavers evened up the game at four. The Beavers pushed across a run on Kay's two-out RBI double.
The Warriors broke the tie and took the lead in the 10th inning, when Minot State got back on the scoreboard. The Beavers put up three runs, two coming on home runs from both Kay and Ossanna, bringing the score to 8-7 in favor of Winona State but the Beavers were unable to get any closer.
