MINOT, N.D. - Minot State falls in overtime 2-1 in a close battle with the Ohio University Bobcats on the home-opener at the Maysa Arena.
The first period was a battle between the goalies as the first period ended with a score of 0-0. The Beavers goalie,
Jake Anthony, had 5 saves on 5 shots on goal in the first period, and the Bobcats goalie, Scott Bird, had 12 saves on 12 shots on goal in the first period.
The Beavers started the scoring in the second period on a power play goal scored by
Jay Buchholz. Buchholz's goal was assisted by
Austin Clyne and
Christian Kadolph. The goal was scored at 19:27 into the second period. The Beavers goaltender,
Jake Anthony was perfect once again in the second period with 12 saves on 12 shots on goal.
The Bobcats answered back in the third period with a goal scored by Nolan Abraham. Abraham's goal was assisted by Spencer Schons and Donovan Burdette. The goal was scored at 13:25 into the third period. The Bobcats goaltender, Scott Bird, was flawless in the third period with 9 saves on 9 shots on goal.
This back-and-forth battle between the Beavers and the Bobcats ended in an overtime goal scored by the Ohio Bobcats. The game-winning goal was scored by Spencer Schons at 1:36 into overtime. Schons' game-winning goal was assisted by Mathieu Ovaert.
Both teams played great hockey throughout this entire game, but in the end it was Ohio University coming away with the win making the Beavers 3-1-1 on the season.
The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday October 19, at 7:30 pm taking on the Ohio University Bobcats at the Maysa Arena in game two of a two game set between these two teams.
