MINOT, N.D. – Senior Craig Schmich set the tone with a career-high 10 strikeouts but it wasn't enough as visiting Saint Cloud State spoiled a "Senior Day" doubleheader at Corbett Field, winning both NSIC contests, 5-2 and 9-5.
Minot State honored seniors Schmich, Martin Rodriguez, Parker Collette, Trevyn Badger, Ricky Apodaca, Tim Carlson, Mark Ossanna, and Cameron Bagshaw between games as all eight will play their final home games this weekend.
Minot State (14-29 overall, 11-22 NSIC) will host Saint Cloud State in a single game at noon on Sunday at Corbett Field (27-16, 23-10) to wrap up its home schedule.
GAME 1 | Saint Cloud State 5, Minot State 2
MINOT, ND -- Craig Schmich had everything working on Saturday, fanning 10 Saint Cloud State hitters over 6.1 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Minot State Beavers lost to the Huskies 5-2.
In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Schmich (2-8) threw 6.1 innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on nine hits and walking two for Minot State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State got an RBI single from Seugjun Song, scoring Brent Riddle from second base.
The Beavers deficit grew to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Minot State picked up a run on Noah Madas' leadoff home run off of junior Luke Tupy, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Huskies. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

Trevyn Badger (1-6) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Parker Collette was a bright spot for the Beavers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one inning, giving up one run on no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State plated two runs off of Saint Cloud State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Brent Riddle.
The Huskies expanded their lead to 6-2 before the Beavers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Minot State scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Colton Bagshaw, scoring Riddle and Seugjun Song, which brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Huskies. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Saint Cloud State added three runs to their tally on the way to a 9-5 final.
