MINOT, N.D. - The Minot State Beavers men's hockey team made easy work of Midland University on Saturday, January 4, shutting out their opponent by a final score of 8-0 in game one of a two-game series. With the win, the Beavers improve their record to 19-2-3, while Midland University drops to 13-12-1 on the season.
Minot State came away from the first period with a 3-0 lead over Midland. The first goal was scored by
Josh Pederson at 13:08 into the period. The second goal was scored by
Colby Joseph on the power play at 15:49 into the period. The third goal of the first period was scored by
Logan Rands at 18:47 into the period. The Beaver's goaltender,
Jake Anthony, tallied 5 saves on 5 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play.
By the end of the second period, the Beavers had extended their lead to 6-0. The fourth goal of the night for the Beavers was scored by
Trenton Curtis at 4:33 into the period. The fifth goal for Minot State was scored by
Joey Moffatt at 10:30 into the period. The sixth goal was scored by
Logan Rands, his second goal of the game, at 17:50 into the second period.
Jake Anthony, once again, had a flawless period in goal for the Beavers, tallying 7 saves on 7 shots on goal.
Minot State would go on to add two more goals in the third period to give them 8 goals on the night. The seventh goal of the game for the Beavers was scored by
Joey Moffatt on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 6:42 into the period. The eighth goal for the Beavers was scored by
Josh Pederson on the power play, his second goal of the game, at 16:02 into the period.
Jake Anthony completed the shut out over Midland with 10 saves on 10 shots on goal in the third period.

Following the 8-0 victory over Midland University, the Beavers will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, January 5, in game two of a two-game series against Midland University at 4:30 pm at the Maysa Arena.
