BLOOMINGTON, IL - The Minot State Beavers men's hockey team is moving on to the MCH Conference Tournament final with a 10-2 victory over Illinois State University in the semi-final on Saturday, February 22. The Beavers will be matching up with, in-state rival, the University of Jamestown in the MCH Conference Tournament final on Sunday, February 23, at 1:00 pm in Bloomington, Illinois.
Minot State got on the board first just over 5 minutes into the first period on a goal scored by
Colby Joseph to take a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Illinois State tied the game at 1-1. With just over 11 minutes left in the period, the Beavers took a 2-1 lead on a goal scored by
Sheldin Howard.
The Beavers opened up the second period by extending their lead to 3-1 on a goal scored by
Colby Joseph, his second goal of the game. With just over 15 minutes left in the period, the Beavers took a 4-1 lead on a power play goal scored by
Colby Joseph, his third goal of the game to secure the hat trick. Minot State took a 5-1 lead on a goal scored by
Trenton Curtis. Soon after, the Beavers took a 6-1 lead on a goal scored by
Matthew Yakubowski. Minot State took a 7-1 lead on a power play goal scored by
Reid Arnold. The Beavers extended their lead to 8-1 on a goal scored by
Colby Joseph, his fourth goal of the game. The Beavers held Illinois State scoreless through the second period.
About 5 minutes into the third period, Illinois State scored a goal to make the score 8-2. With just over 6 minutes left in the third period, the Beavers extended their lead to 9-2 on a goal scored by
Joey Moffatt. With a minute and a half left in the game, the Beavers took a 10-2 lead on a goal scored by
Payton Jerome.
