Mavericks spoil Beavers home debut as Minot State drops pair

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers finally got the chance for their home debut, but the day was spoiled by the visiting Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks who won the NSIC doubleheader at Corbett Field, 11-3 and 7-0 on Saturday.
 
The Beavers (12-14 overall, 7-11 NSIC) host the No. 4/8-ranked Mavericks again in a single game Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Corbett Field, then the teams wrap-up the 4-game series with a final game Monday at noon.
 
GAME 1 | No. 4 Minnesota State 11, Minot State 3
MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers had a tough showing on Saturday, falling to the No. 4/8 Minnesota State Mavericks by final score of 11-3 in the opener of the NSIC doubleheader.
 
Junior Jake Seibert (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Minot State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Senior Connor Hill drove in two runs for Minot State with a single that scored junior Noah Madas and junior Jessen West.
 
The Beavers deficit grew to 10-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Senior Grant Gabbert came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minot State on a double steal, which brought the score to 10-3 in favor of the Mavericks. The Beavers were unable to get any closer, as Minnesota State added one run to their tally on the way to an 11-3 final.

Senior Hayden Bode (0-1) got the ball to start for Minot State and took the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Minot State managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout but failed to score, going a total of 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
 
In the bottom of the second with bases loaded, an inning-ending double play left Minot State scoreless.
 
The Beavers last got a runner on third base in the third, when senior Connor Hill made it 90 feet away from scoring, but was stranded.
