Sam Boisner

Coach Sam Boisner is entering his second season, he joined the Minot State in the summer of 2022 as the head baseball coach.

During an injury-riddled 2024 season, the Beavers battled but finished 15-34 overall and 13th in the NSIC (12-27), missing the postseason. Despite that, Minot State saw Gunnar Kozlowitz earn NCBWA Preseason All-American honors, and designated hitter Ricky Apodaca was named to the All-NSIC 2nd Team as he hit .422, which was 5th-best in the conference. Academically, Brent Riddle and Trevyn Badger led the way, each being named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Academic Team, while 3 players were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence and 10 others were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team.  

In his first season (2023) as the Beavers head coach, Minot State set offensive single-season team records for home runs (89), hits (518), runs scored (388), RBIs (360), batting average (.321), on-base percentage (.404), and slugging percentage (.558). Infielders Derek Kay (2B) and Gunnar Kozlowitz (1B) also were named to All-Central Region Teams, while 5 players were named to the NSIC All-Conference Team, and 7 Beavers earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors. Minot State finished the season with a 29-21 overall record, were 20-14 in NSIC play, and advance to the NSIC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.

Coach Boisner previously spent five seasons as an assistant baseball coach for Northern State prior to taking over the Beavers program. In 5 seasons at Northern State, Boisner Coached five All-Conference Players, two All-Region players and one NSIC Pre-season Player of the year. In 2019 Luke Chevalier was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 26th round.

Boisner also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois-Springfield. In two seasons at UIS, Boisner coached Seven players that were named All-Conference, two All- Region players and one All-American. In his time at UIS two players moved on to Major League baseball affiliates, Cole Taylor (LA Angels) & John Sechen (Colorado Rockies)

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Boisner played at Southeastern CC (Burlington, IA) and St. Cloud State where he hit .318 for the Huskies. In his time at St. Cloud State the Huskies won Two NSIC Conference Championships and twice advanced to the NCAA Central Region Tournament.

Boisner earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from St. Cloud State and his master’s degree in Sport Performance and Leadership from Northern State. Coach Boisner married Minot State's Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance & Student Life / SWA Jordan (Quinlan) Boisner in the fall of 2024.
