Beavers Travel to MSU Moorhead for NSIC Clash

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State football team will face Minnesota State Moorhead in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on Saturday (Oct. 27) at 1 p.m. at Scheels Field in Nemzek Stadium.

THIS WEEK: Minot State plays its fourth road game of the season today as it visits Minnesota State Moorhead in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest at Scheels Field.

LAST TIME THEY MET (Nov. 4, 2017): Minot State's third-down pass from Minnesota State Moorhead 6-yard line fell incomplete as time expired and the Dragons escaped with a 22-16 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over the Beavers at Herb Parker Stadium. After stopping Minnesota State Moorhead on a 4th-and-5 play at the Minot State 30-yard line the Beavers took over trailing 22-16 and 1:01 to play in the fourth quarter. Senior quarterback Zac Cunha connected with Taylor Maloney for 14 yards to the Minot State 49-yard line and then connected with Maloney for 25 yards to the Dragon 21-yard line. On 1st-and-10, Cunha attempted to connect with Lavante Bushnell, but a pass interference penalty moved the ball to Dragon 6-yard line.The Beavers next three pass attempts missed the mark and Minnesota State Moorhead held on for the victory.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEAVERS: Sophomore Derek Wax recorded 10 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and a sack, but Minot State lost to Wayne State 34-0 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game in Herb Parker Stadium. Wax was one of three Minot State players to reach double figures in tackles as Kywan Owens led the Beavers with 13 tackles and Chris Rivers finished with 12 tackles. Minot State trailed just 7-0 at halftime, but the Wildcats scored 21 third-quarter points to pull away from the Beavers.

AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION: Junior punter JoseLuis Moreno is ranked among the best in the nation in punting. Moreno, who currently leads the NSIC in punting, is ranked 18th in Division II averaging 42.6 yards per punt. Moreno, who was a First Team All-NSIC selection last year, has 13 punts over 50 yards and has 22 punts pinned inside the 20-yard line.

PLAYING CLEAN: Minot State ranks as one of the fewest penalized teams in NCAA Division II. The Beavers are 10th in the nation earning only 4.63 penalties per contest and are 11th in the nation averaging just 45.50 penalty yards per game.

BEST IN THE DIVISION II ERA: In just two seasons, cornerback Kiante Goudeau set Minot State career interception and interception return yard records in the Division II era. Goudeau has eight career interceptions in his 19 games at Minot State, which stands as the school record in the DII era. He also has 233 yards in interception return yardage, which includes three TD returns, and holds that record as well.

FAVORITE TARGET: Junior wide receiver Lavante Bushnell has been the favorite target of quarterback Ben Bolinske throughout the season. Bushnell leads the Beavers with 38 receptions for 439 yards and has caught six of Bolinske's eight touchdown passes. Bushnell ranks 46th in Division II with six touchdown catches.

ABOUT MINNESOTA STATE MOORHEAD: Minnesota State Moorhead enters today's game with a 5-3 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the NSIC North Division. The Dragons won three consecutive games against Northern State, Mary and Upper Iowa, but have dropped two of their last three games. In its most recent game, Minnesota State Moorhead lost to Sioux Falls 55-21.
