MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State football team will play its third home game of the season on Saturday (Oct. 6) when it hosts Upper Iowa in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest in Herb Parker Stadium with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Upper Iowa broke open a tight game with 21 points in the third quarter on its way to a 35-7 victory over Minot State in Harms-Eischeid Stadium. The Peacocks held a slim 14-7 advantage midway through the third quarter, but scored three times in the span of just under four minutes to pull away from the Beavers.
Isaiah Weed threw for 226 yards and rushed for another 50 yards to lead Minot State.
WELCOME TO THE HALL OF FAME: This weekend also marks Hall of Fame Weekend at Minot State. The Minot State department of athletics will be inducting
Bev Alex (honorary), Kent Bloms (men's basketball), Jenny Castro (women's basketball/women's track and field), Tom Fredericks (football) and Johnny Lester (football/men's track and field) this year.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEAVERS: Sophomore quarterback
Ben Bolinske rushed for a touchdown and also threw a touchdown pass, but Sioux Falls defeated Minot State 56-14 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at Bob Young Field. Bolinske connected with
Lavante Bushnell for a touchdown pass early in the second quarter to cut the Cougars lead to 14-7, but Sioux Falls tacked on three more scores in the second quarter to take a 35-7 lead into halftime. The Beavers other touchdown on the day came at the end of the third quarter when Bolinske scored on a 2-yard run.
TRIO STANDING TALL: The Minot State freshmen trio of linebackers
Connor Huston,
Ryan DeMarois and
Jackson Green have played well since being inserted into the starting lineup. Huston leads the group with 28 tackles, while Green has 22 tackles and DeMarois has 21 tackles. Huston had a season-high nine tackles against Mary, while DeMarois had eight tackles versus Mary and Green added seven tackles versus the Marauders.
MR. CONSISTENCY: Senior
Chris Rivers has been a stabilizing force from his strong safety position for the Beaver defense. He leads the team with 36 total tackles and ranks second on the team with two interceptions. He has at least six tackles in every game this year and recorded eight tackles at Northern State and versus Mary.
CREATING HAVOC: The Minot State defense has continued to create turnovers as the Beavers have forced at least one turnover in all five games on the season. Minot State has recorded eight interceptions on the season and has recovered six fumbles.
Kiante Goudeau leads the way with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries, while
Chris Rivers has two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
ABOUT UPPER IOWA: Upper Iowa enters the game with a 1-4 overall record, but have lost three games by a combined eight points. The Peacocks lone win of the season came against No. 11 Winona State as UIU prevailed 34-33 by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter.
