MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State football team had plenty of success on the road last season and ventures away from Herb Parker Stadium for the first time this year on Thursday (Sept. 6) when it meets Northern State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest at 7 p.m. on Swisher Field. The game will be televised live on the MidCo Sports Network with David Brown and Greg Enkers calling the action.
The Beavers posted a 3-3 record on the road last season, which included wins over Mary, Minnesota Crookston and St. Cloud State. Minot State has won three of its last four road games and will look to continue that success on Thursday against the Wolves.
Both teams will be in search of their first win of the season as the Beavers lost to Minnesota Duluth 49-3 in their opener, while Bemidji State defeated Northern State 38-17.
Despite the loss, Minot State had several bright spots from the season opener led by senior cornerback
Kiante Goudeau. Goudeau intercepted a pair of passes and also recovered a fumble to pace a defense that forced four Bulldog turnovers in week one. Goudeau, who returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in the 2017 season finale against St. Cloud State, nearly turned the trick again against Minnesota Duluth as he returned an interception to the Bulldog 1-yard line which led to the Beavers only points of the evening.
All-NSICÂ punter
JoseLuis Moreno picked up where he left off last season as he averaged 46.2 yards on nine punts with a long of 58 yards. Additionally, both of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks and he converted his only field goal attempt from 19 yards out.
Andy Jones and
Ben Bolinske split time at quarterback with Jones going 6-of-12 for 20 yards and Bolinske was 3-of-6 for 29 yards. Bolinske did add 70 yards on the ground, which included a 36-yard run.
Lavante Bushnell,
Demond Short,
Lofton Klabunde and
Lane Torgerson each had two receptions for the Beavers.
In addition to the play of Goudeau,
Jemal Williams and
Chris Rivers each had seven tackles while
Logan Krueger had 2.0 tackles for loss including a sack on the first play of the game.
Bemidji State ground out its victory over Northern State last week as the Beavers rushed for 274 yards and had two backs go over 100 yards rushing. The Beavers jumped out to a 17-3 lead at halftime and scored three consecutive touchdowns after the Wolves trimmed the lead to 17-10 in the third quarter.
Northern State has won eight straight games against the Beavers including a 27-19 win last season in Herb Parker Stadium.
The game can also be heard live on KCJBÂ 910AM with Scott Kittell calling the play-by-play.
