Beaver Football Looks to Improve in Home Opener

(MINOT, N.D.) -- The Minot State University Football team (0-1) will look to bounce back from their loss to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the season opener on 9/5.

Beaver Tracks: In their first game of the 2019 season, the Beavers were defeated by the University of Minnesota-Duluth 52-7.

Taking the Next Step:  In the third year under Mike Aldrich, there are signs of improvement in the program. The athleticism has improved. An example of this would be the kick return seen around the country by Cory Carignan.

In the News: As was just mentioned, the kick return by Cory Carignan won him the honor of being named Special Teams Player of the Week by the NSIC. In addition, it was seen nationwide on outlets such as ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and was selected as the NCAA Play of the Week at the division 2 level. It truly was one of the most exciting plays you will see at any level of football this season.

About Northern State University: Northern State University comes to town after losing to Bemidji State University in their season and home opener on 9/5.

Matchup History: The Beavers and Wolves have met seven times, and in those seven games Northern State has prevailed in each matchup. The last matchup between the two teams was Sept. 6th, 2018 and the Wolves defeated the Beavers 42-16.

Home Field Advantage: This is the season and home opener for the Beavers. Minot State University has not won a home opener since 2013, and look to change that tomorrow.
