PITTSBURG, KAN. – The Minot State baseball team (1-1) suffered their first loss of the season earlier today at the hands of the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (1-1). The Beavers and Bearcats seemed to have completely swapped momentum from yesterday's tilt as Northwest won by a score of 13-4.
The game started slowly with no runs in the first two innings, but the Bearcats struck first in the third. Ryan Koski singled to drive in Brett Holden and Jacob Pinkerton. The Bearcats doubled their advantage in the fourth frame with two more runs on a wild pitch and a Matt Gastner double.
Minot State finally broke through in the fifth inning when
Drew Behling walked in a
Kaiden Cardoso run. NWMSU also added three runs in that frame.
Over the last three innings, the Bearcats scored six more runs to reach their final tally of 13. Minot State plated three additional runs from a two-run bomb off the bat of
Blake Gallagher and a
Matt Kruszka RBI double.
Eight pitchers saw action on the mound for MSU with the Beavers' starter,
Noah Myhre, earning the loss. Myhre tossed just three innings and allowed three runs and three hits. He also struck out nine batters and walked three.
Spencer Hanson picked up the victory for the Bearcats after five innings pitched, 10 strikeouts, and only one run allowed.
Minot State will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon when they take on Pittsburg State in Pittsburg, Kan. First-pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
