ABERDEEN, S.D. – Minot State baseball took two games on the road at conference foe Northern State earlier today.
The Beavers and Wolves battled through the first game of the day, but the Beavers were victorious. Minot State picked up right where they left off in the nightcap.
Game 1
Minot State needed eight innings to finish the job, but secured the 6-4 extra-innings victory over Northern State Saturday.
Freshman
Jordan Chappell (4-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went 2.2 shutout innings, giving up one hit, one walk and striking out five. Junior
Noah Myhre started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering four runs, two earned, on four hits, walking two and striking out eight.
In the batter's box, the Beavers were paced by sophomore
Jake Collins, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Junior
Drew Behling put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman
Kellen Peat also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Beavers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Peat, scoring freshman
Matt Malone from second base.
The Beavers deficit grew to 4-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the sixth inning. Minot State scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Collins, which evened the score at 4-4.
That 4-4 tie turned into a 6-4 Minot State lead in the eighth. The Beavers drove two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Behling that scored senior
Ryley Humrighouse and junior
Jordan Williams. The score remained 6-4 for the rest of the game, as Minot State held on for the win.

Dominick Parkhurst had everything working on Saturday, punching out eight Northern State hitters over seven innings of work to help lead Minot State over the Wolves 13-3.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Parkhurst (3-0) went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on nine hits and walking none for Minot State.
Offensively, the Beavers were paced by
Kellen Peat, who went 4-for-4 on the day with three doubles and five RBIs. Sophomore
Jake Collins put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Senior
Ryley Humrighouse also helped out for Minot State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Minot State got an RBI single from Collins, scoring junior
Declan Buckle from second base.
The Wolves failed to push any runs across before the Beavers built on their lead in the fourth inning. The Minot State offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Peat, which brought the Beavers lead to 6-0.
Northern State narrowed Minot State's lead to 6-1 before the Beavers stretched the advantage to 8-1 in the fifth inning. The Beavers recorded two runs when a single from Peat scored senior
Nolan Monthei and Humrighouse.
The Wolves gained ground, closing the gap to 8-2 until Minot State added some insurance in the sixth. The Beavers scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Buckle, bringing the score to 13-2 in favor of Minot State. Northern State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Beavers still coasted to the 13-3 win.
