Late surge in game 2 gives Beavers win, split with Northern State

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State's offense came alive late as Oscar Pegg and Shane Kary hit back-to-back home runs, sparking a comeback win as the Beavers split an NSIC doubleheader at Corbett Field on Wednesday.
 
The Beavers (16-25 overall, 10-22 NSIC) fell 4-2 to Northern State in the opener as the Wolves used a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh to take game one.
 
Minot State rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to win game two, using a 4-run rally in the seventh highlighted by Pegg and Kary's homers.
 
Minot State is back in action on the road this Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series at St. Cloud State before returning home to close out the season hosting Bemidji State in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 29, at Corbett Field, then Augustana on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3.
 
GAME 1 | Northern State 4, Minot State 2
MINOT, N.D. -- Senior Connor Hill put together a quality effort on the mound on Wednesday, but the Minot State Beavers fell 4-2 to the Northern State Wolves.
 
The quality outing from Hill was not enough for Minot State . The left-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State plated two runs when junior Oscar Pegg left the yard with junior Noah Madas aboard. Northern State then scored two times over the remaining four innings to break the tie and grab the 4-2 win.

MINOT, N.D. -- The Minot State Beavers broke through after a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning to defeat the Northern State Wolves 6-2 on Wednesday.
 
Freshman Wyatt Toth (2-4) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Minot State. The right-hander went one shutout inning without giving up a hit, allowing two walks and striking out one. Junior Griffin Shearon also made an impact on the mound for the Beavers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
 
At the plate, the Beavers were led by junior Shane Kary, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Junior Oscar Pegg put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Senior Grant Gabbert also chipped in for Minot State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers were trailing 2-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Minot State managed to push across two runs in the inning as Gabbert and Kekoa Munos each had an RBI base on balls.
 
The score stayed at 2-2 until the very next inning, when the Beavers put runs on the scoreboard once again. Minot State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs across. which brought the Beavers lead to 6-2. Pegg hit a two-run home run and Kary added a solo homer. Gabbert's RBI double capped the scoring.
 
 The score remained 6-2 for the rest of the game, as Minot State coasted to the win.
