MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State baseball team takes their five-game win streak on the road this weekend, as the Beavers travel to Wayne, Neb. to take on Wayne State. Minot State and the Wildcats will play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. and Friday at noon.
The four-game series was originally scheduled to be played at Corbett Field, but was moved to Wayne State due to unplayable field conditions.
Minot State is 8-2 in NSIC play after sweeping Minnesota Crookston in a Tuesday doubleheader in Watford City, N.D.
Junior
Wyatt Schlosser belted four home runs and drove in six runs while
Trevaun Smith and
Ethan Fleming hit solo home runs in the doubleheader sweep.
Jaymon Cervantes improved to 2-0 on the season after allowing three earned runs and striking out 11 batters in 5.2 innings of work in a 7-6 victory over the Golden Eagles.
Minot State is hitting .255 as a team with 113 runs, 157 hits, 38 doubles, four triples and 22 home runs on the season.
Fleming leads the Beavers at the plate while hitting .306, followed by
Michael Borst with a .300 batting average.
Darrel Doll leads the NSIC with six home runs while also leading Minot State with 23 RBIs this season.
Schlosser has hit four home runs, followed by
Kyle Williamson with three home runs while six other Beavers have at least one home run.
Scouting the Wayne State Wildcats
Wayne State enters the series with a 8-10 overall record and 6-2 mark in the NSIC this season. Andrew Hanson and Tanner Simons pace the Wildcat offense that ranks second in the NSIC with 15 home runs. Hanson is hitting .350 with four home runs and 10 RBIs while Simons is batting .338 with four home runs and a team-high 13 RBIs. Aaron Ras is 2-1 on the mound with a 5.21 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 19 innings of work.
As a team, the Wildcats are hitting .279 with 105 runs, 147 hits, 29 doubles, two triples and 15 home runs. The Wayne State pitching staff has a team ERA of 8.44 while surrendering 121 earned runs on 183 hits and striking out 106 opposing batters.
Head coach Alex Koch is in his fourth season at the helm of the Wayne State program and has posted a record of 79-86.

Wayne State leads the all-time series with Minot State, 12-7. In their last meeting, the Beavers fell to the Wildcats 5-2 in St. Cloud, Minn. on May 10, 2017 in the NSIC Baseball Tournament.
