Trevyn Badger set the tone on the hill and his Minot State teammates jumped in offensively with a seven-run rally as the Beavers topped Winona State 10-6 in a neutral-site, NSIC contest Friday at the Sanford Sports Complex.
Badger (1-1) struck out eight in six innings work and allowed just three earned runs to pick up the win for the Beavers (5-10 overall, 2-3 NSIC), who jumped in front 2-0 early then broke the game open with one big rally.
"Really good team win in very difficult conditions to play," Minot State head coach
Sam Boisner said.
Winona State (3-8, 0-1) chipped away and claimed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning before Minot State took control with a seven-run rally in the bottom half of the fourth.
That proved to be plenty of offensive help for Badger and teammates Nick Balandran and
Cameron Bagshaw, who teamed up to close out the final three innings on the mound.
Ricky Apodaca, who came into the game hitting over .500 for the Beavers, continued to swing a hot bat as he was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Minot State while
Mark Ossanna and
Seungjun Song each added a pair of hits and drove in a run,
Grant Gabbert added a pair of hits, and
Brent Riddle hit a solo home run.
The Beavers host Winona State again in a neutral-site doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
